What Is a Misdemeanor?
A misdemeanor is a crime punishable by up to 1 year in county jail. In Texas, misdemeanors are divided into three categories:
- NClass A Misdemeanor – punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
- NClass B Misdemeanor – punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
- NClass C Misdemeanor – punishable by a fine of up to $500.
